Coogee Community Centre

Coogee Community Centre

The Coogee Community Centre is influenced by the site and different elements in the surrounding environment. The elements include:

  • Waves
  • Cliffs
  • Population flow
  • Geometry
  • Layout of the site
  • Surrounding building height
  • Functions of buildings arranged into groups

The main concept of my building is focused on my roof; they are influenced by the shapes of the waves and the idea of being an opened or closed atmosphere to serve different functions and purposes. The rooms are arranged into groups in terms of their sizes and function in order to be placed under the two different atmosphere created by the roof.

The sandstone walls are influenced by the descending slope to the beach and the cliffs at the beach. Rooms are arranged in a way in order to reflect the layout of the properties and streets of the site. Lastly the roof is designed to comment of the geometry around the site.
